Making Lemons Into Lemonade.
A lot of the time parenting feels like making lemons into lemonade. Yesterday that thought really hit home, stay with me while I explain..
We were having a playdate yesterday and I looked over to a succulent, that a month or so ago, my son had broken a couple of pieces off of. I asked him why he did it, and like most four years olds, he didn’t have a good answer.
I was so frustrated at the time because I had recently looked at the plant and thought how beautiful it was and how much it had thrived under my benign neglect. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I gave it a little water and hoped for the best.
Thankfully, it didn’t die. What has happened though is kind of beautiful. In place of the two pieces that were broken off, two new baby plants have grown. Succulents are always making the best of situations. Just like we are as parents and caregivers. It’s great to have a plan, but sometimes we have to go with the flow and a more beautiful memory emerges.
Pro tip: If a piece of a succulent breaks off, stick it in some soil and watch another plant grow.
